Our StoryContactCahersiveen is a small, friendly town on the Ring of Kerry and the Wild Atlantic Way, where the mountains meet the sea and everyone knows each other.
Cahersiveen
Cahersiveen is a traditional Irish market town between the mountains and the sea, looking out across the water towards Valentia Island. Its colourful main street has cafés, shops, a library and a harbour, all within a short walk.
It’s small enough that shopkeepers, neighbours and host families all know each other. For students, that means a safe place to find their feet, real conversations in English every day, and the freedom to walk into town with friends.
Meet our host families →Why a small town
01
No big-city bubble of international students. Here, students speak English at home, in the shops and with the local friends they make.
02
In a town where everyone knows each other, our team, host families and local businesses all keep an eye out. Nobody is just a face in the crowd.
03
Students join in with everyday life: the local shops, Gaelic games, music, local events and family Sundays. This is the Ireland most visitors never see.
04
Mountains, beaches, islands and the Atlantic are minutes away, so afternoons are spent outdoors, not sitting on a bus.
On your doorstep
Just across the water, with kayaking in sheltered bays, the old transatlantic cable station and some of the best views on the coast.
Cahergal and Leacanabuaile, two stone forts just outside town, where students can walk the walls and imagine life over a thousand years ago.
Sandy beaches and quiet coastal paths, where the only crowds are the seabirds.
Guided hikes with views over the bay, the islands and the Iveragh Peninsula.
Boat trips and fishing on the bay, with dramatic cliffs and wide-open sea all around.
Saturday excursions to places like Muckross in Killarney National Park, Derrynane Beach and the Smuggler’s Walk.
Ring of Kerry · Wild Atlantic Way
The Ring of Kerry loops around the Iveragh Peninsula, and the Wild Atlantic Way runs the length of Ireland’s west coast. Cahersiveen sits on both, so the scenery visitors travel hours to see is simply part of everyday life for our students.
There’s more on the way, too: a new greenway for walking and cycling is being built in the area.
